Jonas Nightengale (Steve Martin) is a cynical, charismatic preacher who heads a hi-tech travelling gospel revue that operates in the middle America Bible Belt. Under the guise of rousing entertainment and preaching, he uses electronics and computer technology to fabricate miracles as a means of defrauding unsuspecting townspeople. When the revue bus breaks down in a small Kansas town and he becomes involved with a feisty waitress he is forced to reconsider his charlatan ways. |
