Rachel is the undisputed matriarch of her large family. She has devoted herself to her three sons all their lives. They are, of course, devoted to her and enjoy spending time at her ramshackle house near the coast of Suffolk. But when Luke, her youngest, gets married, Rachel realises that her control is slipping away. Then a power struggle develops that can only end in misery as her three daughters in law want to do things their own way, and so, to her grief, do her sons.
