Summary Note Handel has been something of a talisman for Australian audiences, with Handel albums by David Hobson and Kenneth McKellar, Yvonne Kenny and Renee Fleming all being best-sellers. His writing for the voice is unparalleled, from the early, florid Italianate works such as the firecracker of an aria from La Resurrezione (with Cecilia Bartoli) to the quieter, pastoral Handel of 'Where'er you walk' (Kenneth McKellar's timeless recording) and 'He shall feed his flock' (in the supremely sublime interpretation of Arleen Auger and Anne Sofie von Otter). This compilation is the single most desirable collection of Handelian vocal gems, from the rich warmth of Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne to the crisp, bright sound of Emma Kirkby and Sara Macliver. The cast list is a Who's Who of stars, including Janet Baker, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Andreas Scholl; solo vocal gems are spiced with choruses from Messiah and Israel in Egypt .
