Summary Note
Othello, a noble Moor, has in command Iago, a lieutenant insanely jealous of Othello's success, rank and morality, and especially of his marriage to Desdemona. At every turn Iago plots to exploit Othello, undermine his trust in Desdemona, and deceive Othello into an all-consuming jealousy. Iago's perverse malice results in the untimely murder and suicide of the two star-crossed lovers.
